Math Carnival Co-hosted by Rotary Club of Washington Global
RCWG co-hosted a Math Carnival on August 15th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Arlington Central Library.
On Saturday, our club partnered with the Arlington Central Library, mEducation Alliance and TinkerQuest to host our second Math Carnival of the year. The carnivals engage primary aged learners (and their parents) through fun and interactive math and STEM activities curated from top math and STEM education organizations.
In the Central Library's auditorium, we attracted around 75 kids (K-5 graders) and their parents who participated in 12 "carnival" stations spread around the room. Stations included:
Life-size games
Coding challenges for curious young minds
Puzzles that make math feel like play
Prizes for every math adventurer
Pirate’s Puzzle: Cracking codes, weighing pirate gold, and using graphing skills to unlock the pirate’s chest.
Stained Glass Geometry: Using colorful tangrams and lightboards to build beautiful geometric masterpieces
Buzzy Bee Bots: Programming robot bee to navigate mazes and solve spatial puzzles.
RCWG members and local high school students brought all activities to life at each station by providing instruction and guidance. We even had a volunteer demonstrating how to juggle!
